It was an impactful session for environmental journalists and conservation experts on the account of “Media Briefing and Sensation on the Endangered Species Conservation and Protection Bill 2024”, sponsored by Hon. Terseer Ugbor, the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, American Corner, Environmental Investigation Agency, Wild Africa, Channels Academy, and counting.
The event which hosted leading environmental journalists from various media organisations took place on March 28th,2025 at American Corner Ikeja, Vibranium Valley, 42 Concord Way off Local Airport Road Ikeja, Lagos-Nigeria,10:am.
According to Mr. Festus Iyorah of Wild Africa, the training was focused on equipping Environmental Journalists with strategic techniques in reporting wildlife legislation and trafficking amidst other objectives.
Better still, the briefing was scheduled to address three main objectives:
*Engagement of journalists on
strategies and reporting techniques
in covering Wildlife legislation
and Wildlife trafficking.
*Build partnerships and strengthen
long-term relationships with
environmental journalists to
generate greater publicity for the bill.
*Promote collaboration between
media and stakeholders such as
researchers, policymakers, and
conservationists.
Ultimately, it was organised to estimate, create awareness on the impact of Wildlife crime, and reveal the need to shape the existing legislation to conform with international regulations.
The key speakers highlighted the iconic role of journalists in advancing national conversation for development as well as confronting the government to ensure accountability in national issues through consistent and impactful media coverage.
In all, the project promoted stakeholders’ engagement via presentations from professionals, question and answer sessions, and a range of other interactive activities.
