NIGERIA’S ECONOMIC DROUGHT STILL A MYSTERY TO UNRAVEL

The World Bank has praised our current president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his courage to remove the subsidy. (Arise News) Although it is a noble and a welcoming development, as it marks a unique turning point in our economic development; this however, places a crucial task on him because Nigeria’s economic drought remains unravelled.

It is fundamental for Mr. President to understand that Nigerians are still expectant of the sustainable palliatives he promised to offer to help succour the economic effects on us, though he has said that he is not in anyway, in a hurry to fix the economic problems.

Sadly, a lot of people have lost hope in the system. However, some are still in an optimistic mood; With the view that Mr. President is a man that has an uncommon hospitable attitude towards people and also has the right attitude to knit the nation together. With all due humility and a sense of responsibility, our position is that he should defend this claim by appropriating safe and robust range of measures so as to make it possibly, a cogent and wildly acceptable view among the Nigerian citizens.

We believe that he will agree with us that we have been through a lot of economic hurdles and that a large number of people are heavily crippled by stress as a result of the economic crises that have continuously ravaged our nation. Given this background, it is very much unclear how Nigerians have been able to go through the excruciating economic hardship so far, and still maintain a veritable life.

Mr. President should not lose focus of the fact that we are already dealing with extreme emergency situations where low income earners are now battling with the psychology surrounding the economic hardship. More especially, women are at the receiving end. A lot of women are most likely grappling with emotional trauma as a result of excessive abuse.

Domestic violence has risen up in most homes because many poor families are not able to cope with the economic challenges heating up the polity accompanied by the massive level of unemployment among our teeming youths.

Mr. President, Sir, we know that you are aware of all our Nigerian experiences, and that you are passionate about your cause to bring about great economic change to our beloved nation Nigeria. Howbeit, Nigerians will greatly appreciate your regime if you roll out transformational projects that show that you are not only aware of our situations, but that you are also willing to truly identify with our plights.

It could be so frustrating for us if we do not ascertain to a great extent, a correlation between your words and your actions. On this note, we wish to use this platform to appeal to you to consider our plights, and to suggest to you that it will be good you act very fast to remedy the situation for the interest of the poor masses who are paying dearly for this prickly situation.

Recently, World Bank published a report which declared that more than four million (4M) Nigerians have been pushed into poverty in this early first half of 2023 alone, while many more are likely to become poorer if the economic crisis persists. (Arise Global News: 28/06/2023) This trend, of course, is quite worrisome.

Therefore, it will be good for Mr. President, Sir, to brace up and undertake a wholistic and pragmatic approach to tackling these issues to avoid escalation. Essentially, it will be quite logical for your government to put certain mechanisms under check to avoid the chronic breakdown of the whole system. This has a special significance to Nigerians because we believe that this is the right time to rebuild this nation to be able to get back the Nigerian system that truly works. We earnestly hope that the present government will provide timely support for Nigerians at this critical time.

God bless Mr. President and long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
