THE DELUGE OF THE SCOURGE OF DRUG ADDICTION AMONG THE NIGERIAN YOUTHS DEMANDS URGENT ATTENTION

The rate at which most of our Nigerian youths have taken to drugs and other antisocial behaviours calls for urgent attention. Many often run into serious troubles as a result of their antisocial activities. It should be noted that one deadly mistake can ruin the entire life of the best of the youth… Sequel to this writeup, we have written two of this kind to express the exigency of this issue. The danger in this habit is that we are gradually losing out our future leaders to addiction and eventual mental illness hence our youths are considered to be the future leaders…It is very obvious that our youths need proper education on the negative effects of these deadly habits. We speak as concerned developmental practitioners and as part of our social cooperate responsibility.

Thus, the management of Trending Gists and Communication Network uses this platform to appeal to our government to join hands to shoulder this responsibility and not jettison it to the family and religious bodies alone… We suggest the government approve more devoted organisations that will provide adequate attention on intelligence and welfare on the issues that concern the youths.Establish and invest in more strong innovative programmes aimed at engaging people who have broadened perspectives on these issues to help them;… Reputable and seasoned counsellors, community leaders and psychologists at the community level could be engaged to handle this herculean task.People who are willing to listen to them and minister to them on individual levels to engage them and to profer proper orientation on possible positive activities that will engage them productively. Against all prevailing factors, all the three tiers of government should provide a support system that empowers and not disempower the youths to optimally express their potentials.Though it may not be very easy to alter most of their personality traits but through these mechanisms, the government can help them manage their peculiar personalities. It is very important that attention is drawn to these areas at least, at the community level, every community should provide support for these youths . If need be, monitor their activities and provide feedbacks that will facilitate practical progression to avert the danger of recording more distinct mental health, choleric individuals and other antisocial behaviours among our teeming youths.
