The atmosphere was filled with joy and camaraderie as the residents of Mercyland Estate gathered to celebrate a momentous occasion of the 2024 Christmas Party. The party which garnered a lot of attention was the second of it’s kind in over 20 years at the estate, resulting to the buzz around it.
The chairman of the day, Engr. Banjo Olusegun (who was the estate’s immediate past chairman) began by welcoming the esteemed guests, including the chairman and executive members of the estate, former chairmen and past executive members, elders of the community, landlords, landladies, and residents. The audience was also treated to a special welcome message for the voluntary donors who made the event possible.
As the chairman delved into the heart of the matter, he posed a thought-provoking question: “What are we celebrating?” The answer, he explained, lies in the mercy of God upon each and every one of them, as well as their achievements as an estate. The celebration was also a testament to the unity and future achievements that the community was capable of accomplishing together.
The chairman acknowledged that Mercyland Estate was one of the elite estates within the neighborhood, but emphasized that there was still room for improvement. As a family under the mercy of God, the community was called upon to explode into greatness and make their estate the best within the neighborhood.
So, what makes an estate an elite? The chairman identified several key factors, including security, road infrastructure, welfare, and recognition. He emphasized the need for a robust security system, complete with solar-powered CCTV cameras and security houses. This, he explained, would require the support of residents, who could contribute to the cost of installing these security measures.
However, he emphasized the need for a more permanent solution, suggesting that the estate could explore the possibility of interlocking the roads. This, he explained, would require a recurrent annual levy, which would enable the estate to raise the necessary funds.
In addition to security and road infrastructure, the chairman emphasized the importance of welfare and recognition. He paid tribute to past executives, including Mr. Wada, Pst Sontan, and Builder Aladeloba, who had played a significant role in the growth and development of the estate. The chairman also acknowledged the contributions of voluntary donors, who had made the event possible.
As the chairman drew his speech to a close, he emphasized the need for the community to come together and support one another. He encouraged residents to look out for one another, to offer support and assistance where needed, and to celebrate the living legends amongst them. The chairman also suggested that the estate could explore alternative means of generating revenue, such as privatizing the security house and welcoming centre.
As the residents of Mercyland Estate looked to the future, they did so with a sense of hope and optimism. They knew that there were challenges ahead, but they were confident that by working together, they could overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness. The celebration was a testament to the power of community spirit, and a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for a brighter future.
Donations were also made by the residents towards the construction of the roads in the estate.
