The Ecozone club members of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos, today, Friday, June 5th, joined millions of people around the world to commemorate World Environment Day, a global event dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and action.
World Environment Day is observed annually to encourage individuals, communities, and organisations to take practical steps toward protecting the planet. The day highlights issues such as pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, and the need for sustainable living. The goal is to promote proper waste disposal, tree planting, and environmental sustainability.
The celebration brought together students, lecturers, and members of the institution’s management, and many industry executives who reflected on the need to protect the environment through responsible habits and sustainable practices.
Mrs Patricia Kalesanwo, who became the first female Registrar of NIJ in 2021, gave the welcome speech.
Speaking at the event, the Registrar emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility. She encouraged students and staff to contribute to a cleaner and healthier society by adopting simple actions like environmental conservation. Other dignitaries at the event include Dr Adeboye Ola, sponsors, and industry executives.
The event at NIJ served as a reminder that safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility and that collective action can help create a better future for generations to come.
Thanks for your attention.
